Twenty Years of Burnsland

I almost let this entire year go by without mentioning a major milestone, which is the twenty year anniversary of your favorite website. Your favorite website is, right?

Yes, I originally flipped on the Burnsland light switch on January 24, 2002, and those lights have been glowing ever since. True, we have changed the lightbulbs several times since then, but things are still going strong here. And so I am not repeating myself, you can read about the first ten years in this post that I wrote ten years ago.

Below is a look at the original site home page. And here is a link to that early version of the site at, if you want to click on a few things.

The Burnsland website as it appeared twenty years ago

In those old days, your choice for viewing the Burnsland website was a desktop computer or laptop computer, because that is all that we had back then. I can just imagine people all over the world waking up each morning, running to their computers, starting their dial-up, and navigating to to see if there was any new content that day. Okay, so maybe it was only one or two people somewhere in the world, but don’t crush my dream. These days, you can take this website with you anywhere in the world. I suppose you could take other websites, too, but why would you want to?

In these days when you can start up a new website in no time at all, twenty years is getting kind of old. But then I am not as young as I used to be, either. So I like to think that Burnsland and I are aging well together, like fine cheese. And it should be pretty obvious by now that this is not just some fly-by-night website. We fly in the daytime, too.

By far, the best thing about over the years has been the people. Otherwise, this would just be me typing stuff to myself, which would be rather awkward, wouldn’t it? Yes it would. See, there I go replying to myself again.

So in this time of our national holiday of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for you. Yes you, you individual person who is taking the time to read this post, or any of the other Burnsland stuff. This site has allowed me to reach people all over the world, and I do not take that lightly. I appreciate each and every one of you, whether I know you personally or not. Thank you for taking a little time to read something around here. Thank you for taking the time to comment on a post or share it with a friend. Thanks for your feedback, even the weird stuff. Thank you for being a friend. Sorry, Golden Girls moment there.

Let’s see what the future holds, shall we?

I thank my God every time I remember you. - Philippians 1:3
