Yesterday morning as I was driving to work, I saw up ahead that there were two police cars with their lights flashing stopped on the other side of the road. Of course, when you see something like that, your mind immediately begins to try to figure out what it might be.
Was it the usual speed trap? That wouldn’t be unusual at all, except that something like that usually just involves one car, and there were two.
Was it a wreck? It was a clear, dry day, and they weren’t at an intersection. But wrecks can happen anywhere at any time, regardless of road conditions. However, as I got closer, I couldn’t see any other cars. It could have been that one was in a ditch, but I didn’t see any signs of that, either.
As I continued to get closer, I could see there was a bit of distance between the two police cars. They were at least thirty feet apart, if not more. That was strange.
And then when I got up to where they were, I finally saw what was going on. Two cows were at the side of the road, grazing in the grass. Obviously, they had gotten out of their fence, wherever it was. And the police cars were there on either side of them. I’m just not sure if they were there to protect the cows, or to protect the cars on the road. Probably both.
That is one of the fun things about living out in the country - you just never know what you are going to see.
