Looking Up at the Tree of Life

Tree of Life in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World

Looking up at the Tree of Life, the centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

As I understand it, this is a view that you can’t get any more. Sometime after our trip last December, a piece fell off of the tree, which if you didn’t know is actually a fake tree made of cement and steel. So now, canopies of nets have been installed over the walkways that run underneath the Tree of Life, so that those who walk under it will be able to continue enjoying life of their own.

I am still hopeful that they can figure out the problem and that the nets can be removed. Much of the charm of the Tree of Life is in all of the animal carvings on its trunk, and these can best be seen in close-up views from underneath the tree. And besides, standing under the tree really gives you a sense of its amazing size.

For some reason, a view like this always makes me think of A Bug’s Life. Maybe I know how those ants feel.
