Lads to Leaders 2012

This past weekend was the annual Lads to Leaders Convention, as it is every Easter weekend. There are six different conventions, but we always go to the one at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lads to Leaders is an organization to train young people to use their different talents to serve God better. But really, it isn’t just for kids, because it takes adults to train them during the year, and then it takes adults to judge the different events at the conventions. So it really is something for everyone.

This year, Jaylin participated in song leading, oral Bible reading, and Bible Bowl. He had also taken a photograph for Art Says It, he had recited the books of the Bible for Know the Books, and he had read the New Testament for Parade of Winners. All of that takes a good bit of work throughout the year, but it is worth it. Jaylin was excited that his Bible Bowl team was one of the finalist teams in their age division - not that bad considering that their team was three third graders and a second grader in a third and fourth grade division.

I always enjoy the conventions. For one thing, it gives us a chance to spend some extra time with several of our church members, and we get to know them a bit better. It reminds me of the youth group retreats, because we are all right there together for the whole weekend. Although with around 10,000 people there, you don’t always see all of your own church people all the time. But then we also get to see others that we know from other congregations, whether it is people we went to school with or people that we have gotten to know over the years. Always fun to see who you might run into while you are there. But this time I never did see Angie there, although I knew she was there.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend. If thirteen counts as “a few.”
