Let Your Light Shine

For this photo, I thought I would try something a little artistic. This table and lamp sit in the hallway right outside our bedroom door, so I see them every time I go in and out of the bedroom. As I was looking for a 50with50 subject, this caught my eye and I thought I would give it a try.

It would have been better to shoot this straight on instead of at an angle. However, with the focal length of the 50mm lens and the width of the hallway, there was not enough room to be right in front of the table and get the whole table and lamp in the frame. I could have swapped to a lens with different focal length, but then using the 50mm lens is the point of the 50with50 series, isn’t it. Part of that is figuring out another way to do things. So shooting at this angle was the solution.

Another Way

Sometimes, figuring out the solution to a problem requires finding another way to do things. Instead of trying the same thing again, we have to look for something different.

That is the fun in this series. Normally in a similar situation, I could either zoom out with the lens or take a few steps back. But neither of those were options here. So I had to look for another angle. Literally.

Of course, this is a simple example, but that applies in life, too. On some occasions, when the obvious solution is not available, we are reluctant to look for something different. We would rather stick with the familiar way instead of trying something different. But sometimes something completely different is the best solution.

As with this photo, while the solution may not be ideal, often you can find something that will work.

When presented with a problem, don’t give up. Just look at the problem from another angle.

Bible Verse

The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. - Exodus 15:2

About the Photo

Besides just shooting this photo from a different angle, I also used a different crop from my normal photos. The trim around the stairs was visible at the left. Cropping it at the standard ratio left too much blank wall at the right. So I cropped that, too, just leaving the main subjects of the photo.

Just another solution to the problem. Nothing major, but worth noting.
