Guardians at the Door at Wat Pho in Bangkok

Guardians at the Door at Wat Pho in Bangkok

Two Chinese guardian statues stand near a doorway at the Wat Pho temple complex in Bangkok, Thailand, as a row of Buddha statues looks on behind them.

This photo is a companion of sorts to the earlier photo of a Guardian at Wat Pho. But while that guardian represented European explorers, these two guardians represent Chinese wise men, perhaps representing the wisdom that one might find there in the temple complex.

In case you are wondering, the doorway led to another part of the complex, as there were different courtyards and open spaces around every corner and through every doorway. You can also see a little of the ornate designs to be found on the roofs and buildings here. There was lots of gold and colorful tiles throughout the whole place, making it all very colorful and interesting.

And I just love the smile of the guy on the right. He looks quite happy to be there, even though he is there every day, day in and day out. Maybe there is something to be learned from that, after all.

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. - James 1:5

About the Photo

This photo was actually quite challenging to figure out, because all of the lines of the doorways, floor, roof, and so on seemed to go in different directions. Just when I thought I had it straight, I would realize that something else was not quite right. Finally, I put it aside for a day. The next day, I made just a simple adjustment, and everything else looked fine. Relatively. If it still doesn’t look quite straight to you, you should have seen it before!

A single RAW exposure, processed in Photoshop. Read more about the photo software and gear I use at the camera gear page.
