Flippers and Floats at Castaway Cay

That Island Feeling

Flippers and Floats is the place to go to rent items for the beach on Castaway Cay, the Disney Cruise Line’s Bahamas island, as seen during our 2018 Christmas Disney Cruise.

We did not actually rent anything from Flippers and Floats. There is no charge for beach chairs and umbrellas, or even for beach towels, so we were good. We also had a ball that the kids threw, so there was not anything else that we needed while we were on Castaway Cay.

But as we were walking by, I loved the look of the Flippers and Floats building. I don’t know that I had paid any attention to it on our previous visits, for whatever reason. I decided it was photo-worthy, so it was a good thing that I had my camera with me as we were walking.

I like the light, bright colors, and of course all of the palm trees, too. I should have taken a closer photo of the sign to show all the flippers, floats, and paddles that are on it, not to mention the busted canoe that holds the “Floats” wording.

It was a fun little place that adds to the unique atmosphere of Castaway Cay!

October has Arrived

If you check the calendar (or the date on this post), you will see that October has finally arrived. I say “finally” like it almost wasn’t going to happen, although it does happen this time every year.

So we are now in the home stretch of 2019. If there is something that you want to accomplish this year that you have not yet started on, might I suggest that you get busy doing whatever it is. Because these last three months zoom right on by, in my experience.

To me, October brings a slight sense of slowness. The air gets cooler and the daylight hours get shorter. I am not sure why, but when it is almost dark when I get home from work I feel a little more relaxed.

In the summer when there are still a few hours of daylight left, I suppose I feel some pressure to get something done. Not quite so much when it is dark. Darkness means I should wrap things up and get to bed, not start something new. Of course, there are usually things to do in the house that can be done after dark, too. But I do not feel quite as much pressure for those.

So whatever October means to you, I hope you enjoy it!

P.S. As of this writing we are still waiting for those cooler temperatures to arrive. October is getting off to a hot start, it seems.

About the Photo

I purposefully wanted this photo to have a light, “beachy” kind of look. And yes, my spellchecker does know that “beachy” is not an actual word. But I keep using it anyway. After all, Castaway Cay is all about the beach, right? It is to me.

I used some similar settings to the Beach Club photo that I posted a few weeks ago, because I really liked the look of it. And that feel worked as well for the Castaway Cay beach as for the Beach Club. Have you ever noticed how much beach stuff I post around here?

Anyway, I had saved the settings from the Beach Club photo as a preset in Aurora HDR, so it was easy to apply those to this photo and make some slight adjustments to get the look that I wanted. Pretty cool when something is relatively easy like that.
