Daily Photo: The (other) Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower in Paris, Tennessee

Recently, we went to Kentucky Lake with some of our friends who have a place up there. It was a fun weekend of boating and such. But while we were there, we went to nearby Paris, Tennessee, to see the Eiffel Tower.

Obviously, this isn’t the real Eiffel Tower, but rather a smaller scale replica, standing at 60 feet tall, compared with the 1050 foot height of the original Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. The Tennessee version stands in Memorial Park in Paris (Tennessee).

But actually, this was not my first time to see this version of the Eiffel Tower. Back when I was in college at Christian Brothers University, the school built the tower as part of Memphis in May in 1990. Each year, Memphis in May honors a different country, and in 1990 the festival honored France. So for a while, I saw the Eiffel Tower every day as I went to my classes.

A few years later, the Eiffel Tower was donated to Paris, Tennessee, which seems to be a perfect home for the tower.

Several years ago, the original wooden tower was rebuilt out of steel, so that it will continue to stand in Paris, Tennessee, for quite some time.

So now, we can say that we have been to Paris, and that we saw the Eiffel Tower. Of course, we should probably add that it was in Paris, Tennessee. Just to be honest.
