Cinderella Castle and Balloons / Summer Is Almost Here!

Cinderella Castle and Balloons

I’m not a big fan of balloons. Either they pop, they lose their air, or they float away. What’s the big deal?

But sometimes, they do look good in pictures, such as here in front of Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World in the early evening. Doesn’t really make me want to buy one. But they do look neat.

Summer Is Almost Here!

Well, that isn’t exactly true - summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21. But don’t bother telling that to the school kids.

When I was in school, it didn’t matter what the calendar said. The beginning of summer was one minute after school ended on the last day of classes. And as the last few weeks and days of school went by, you could feel the anticipation building. That was followed by that great sense of relief once the school year was finally finished. It was a big enough event in elementary school, but then it was even bigger in high school after exams were over. And college was much the same way as well.

I haven’t been in school in quite a while now. But Jaylin is in school. And Laura is a teacher. And I know they both always look forward to the end of the school year. In the fall, the summer break seems like it is a long way off. And then it gradually gets closer, even though it still feels like a distant dream. And then finally, at long last, it arrives with great celebration.

Even though I still go to work every day, summer does bring some changes in our house. Everything seems to be more relaxed. We aren’t running quite as much in so many different directions. We can take a little more time to do some of the things we like to do.

So summer is almost here. And I’m happy to see it arrive.
